The Nature of Grandfather Mountain Workshop
with Kenny McKeithan

A three day photography workshop with instructor Kenny McKeithan photographing the “old man of the mountain.”

Peaking at 5946 feet above sea level, the splendor of Grandfather Mountain is dwarfed only by its physical size. John Muir, founder of the Sierra Club, visited Grandfather in September 1898. Muir had been ill with a bronchial cough for
many months, but after climbing Grandfather he wrote to his wife, “The air has healed me. I think I could walk ten miles and not be tired.” Join us as we photograph this place where Daniel Boone himself is known to have hunted. We’ll see all that the old man of the mountain has to offer including the summit and “Mile High Swinging Bridge”, the wildlife habitats, home to black bear, cougar, river otter, bald eagle and more. We’ll also travel to nearby Blowing Rock, and the surrounding Blue Ridge Parkway. This workshop will start on Wednesday night to discuss shooting technique and what we’ll see and lay out our itinerary.
This will allow us to start shooting at first light Thursday morning. We’ll shoot all day Friday and Saturday and have review and critique sessions after each day’s shooting.

Places we’ll visit: Grandfather Mountain,The Blue Ridge Parkway,The Blowing Rock.

What we’ll learn: Techniques for capturing dramatic mountain landscapes, macro techniques
for flowers, Capturing sunrises and sunsets, filter selection and more
